Karachi (March 22, 2018): Former Malir SSP Rao Anwar, earlier absconding in the Naqeebullah Mehsud ‘encounter’ case, is likely to be produced before a court on Thursday.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday following his appearance before the apex court. “Rao Anwar will be produced before a court today in order to get his physical remand,” said a senior Sindh police official privy to the matter.
Police investigators said that the former SSP will be quizzed keeping the FIR against him in view. “Rao Anwar will have to prove his innocence,” one official added.
Earlier, the former SSP Malir, who was arrested in killing of Naqeebullah during alleged fake police encounter yesterday from Islamabad, has been shifted to Karachi from Islamabad via Shaheen Airline flight LN-126 on Wednesday.
Stringent security arrangement were made before his arrival at Karachi airport. After Rao Anwar’s arrival at Karachi airport he was handed over to investigative police officer Adeel Chandio as Rao Anwar will shift to special cell to resume investigation over the killing of Naqeebullah.
According to sources Rao Anwar will be produced before anti-terrorism court tomorrow, Thursday, and investigative officer will request for physical remand on the same time.
It is worth mentioning that Rao Anwar’s ticket was booked on PIA flight PK-309, however later it was cancelled and seat was booked on a private airline.
Rao Anwar Arrested
Earlier today, the police arrested former SSP Malir Rao Anwar over his alleged involvement in extra-judicial killing of a youth Naqeeb Ullah Mehsud and three others in a police encounter.
The investigation team led by Aftab Pathan and Wali Ullah, Azad Khan, Zulfiqar Larak and Dr Rizwan as its members is converted into a JIT from apex court and would probe the police official over his alleged involvement in Naqeeb murder case.
