Rao Anwar’s petition against suspension: SHC seeks reply from CS, IGP Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh and others for September 27 on a petition filed by Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar against his suspension.   

The court while issuing notice to the CS and IGP Sindh and others directed the respondents to submit rejoinder by September 27.

Earlier, Rao Anwar approached the court against his suspension by the provincial government for arresting Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly and MQM leader Khwaja Izhar-ul-Hassan .

In his petition, the police officer submitted that he did not violate any law and the arrested of MQM leader was well within the ambit of law.  He said that as per law, only intimation to Speaker of the Assembly after arrest of any member was required and in the instant case the law was complied with. He said that his suspension was violation of superior judiciary directives that no officials will be removed without proper inquiry. He pleaded the court to reverse the order of his suspension.

It is to be mentioned here that Rao Anwar was suspended by Sindh Chief Minister for arresting Khwaja Izha-ul-Hassan on last Friday.  He had arrested Hassan in the glare of media cameras. Later, Hassan was released from CCPO Office after five year in captivity. Following the episode, Sindh CM had ordered suspension of Rao Anwar and SHO Sohrab Goth while DIG West Kamran Fazal was repatriate to the federal government.
