Rehman Malik Claims RTS Was Not Failed But Shut Down  

Islamabad (August 27, 2018): The PPP Senator and chairman Senate committee for interior Rehman Malik claimed on Monday in his report that the Result Transmission System was not collapsed but shut down intentionally.

The chairman Senate committee for Interior Rehman Malik, who was tasked to investigate the failure of RTS on the election day, has submitted its report in the upper house, saying that the system was not failed but shutdown and the form 45 were also not given to the polling agents on various polling stations.

“We have recommended a committee and technical experts to probe the issue as I also wrote the letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard,” he stated in his report.

He mentioned that after the further meeting with the other members of the committee volume three will be issued.“If government form the committee to resolve the issue Senate committee will assist it, however, failure in the formation of committee Senate committee will continue its work,” he clarified.

On August 26, Pakistan Peoples Party Senator and former Interior Minister Rehman Malik requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to constitute a technical committee to probe shutdown of election results software on the polling day.

In a letter addressed to the PM, Malik mentioned that the Senate had entrusted the Standing Committee on Interior with looking after the elections proceedings, and as the country’s interior minister Imran Khan is obliged to assist the committee in its probe.RTS Failure: Malik Demands Committee To ProbeThe committee had asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to investigate the failure of the Results Transmission System (RTS), identify those responsible and suggest action against them, the Pakistan Peoples Party leader wrote.

Malik further wrote that it is in the national interest to probe the RTS collapse and asked for directives to be issued to the Cabinet division at the earliest to form a technical committee to probe the matter.
