ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Interior, Rehman Malik, assured affected families of controversial shootout at Sahiwal by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, whereas, the former interior minister termed the police action as ‘target killing’.

A meeting of the committee held under chair of Rehman Malik that was attended by relatives of slain Zeeshan and Khalil on special invitation.

Malik termed the deceased persons as ‘martyrs’ and labelled the incident as ‘target killing’. He assured the affected families for provision of justice on every forum. He added that security will also be provided to the affected family at any cost and evidences will be brought forward before nation.

Earlier upon arrival at Parliament House, mother of slain Zeeshan told reporters that the authorities have snatched son from her and later labelled him as terrorist. She complained that her family members were now being declared as terrorists as well while she will demand for justice by the standing committee. She expressed dissatisfaction over probe initiated by Joint Investigation Team, saying the same police department was working in JIT who killed her son.

The aggrieved mother demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan to provide justice regarding brutal killing of her son by the police officials.

Meanwhile, brother of slain Khalil, Jalil said that he was hopeful for true justice and judicial commission will be formed in the case soon. Relatives complained that JIT was complicating the probe over Sahiwal incident and both families were facing severe mental stress as statements were not recorded on the first day.

Relatives revealed before media that JIT members were interrogating them in late night hours while many eyewitnesses avoided to record statement in police station due to fear of their lives.

Relatives of Zeeshan and Khalil, who were killed in controversial shootout by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Sahiwal, departed for Islamabad on Tuesday morning.

The families of the deceased persons were scheduled to meet members of Senate Standing Committee for Interior.
