Record Tempering: IHC to Hear Hiajzi’s Petition on 20th

Islamabad (December 14, 2017):  Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday removed the objection of Registrar Office raised on the petition of former SECP chairman Zafar Hijazi seeking the court to quash the FIR registered against him in Chaudhry Sugar Mill record tempering case.

On Saturday, Hijazi filed a petition through his counsel seeking the court challenging the decision of Special Judge (FIA) Central for rejecting his plea to quash the record tempering case against him.

Hijazi has made federation and Special Judge (FIA) Central as respondents in the petition.

However, Registrar Office of IHC had raised objections over the petition. Hijazi challenged the objection upon which IHC removed the same and fix the petition  for hearing before a single member bench of the court.

IHC judge Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani will conduct hearing on the petition on December 20, 2017.

The petitioner submitted that the FIR registered against him on record tempering charges was baseless and the trial court overlooked important aspect while rejecting his plea to quash the case.

It is to be mentioned here that Hijazi is being currently tried in the court of Special judge Irum Niazi. Hijazi, who is out on bail, has been booked in the case in the wake of the Supreme Court’s order in the Panama Papers case for allegedly tampering with financial records of the Sharif family’s company.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took Hijazi into custody in July, after a report released by the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) alleged that the former SECP chairman had altered records related to the Chaudhry Sugar Mills.
