Petition Filed In SHC To Reopen Cases Against MQM Leaders

Karachi (August 01, 2018): A petition to open cases closed under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in 2007 was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

The cases against MQM leaders weren’t opened despite the orders of the Supreme Court that had declared the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) null and void in 2009.

The petition was filed by Iqbal Kazmi stating that with the closure of cases 8041 notorious MQM accused were benefitted.Image result for ishrat ul ebadThe petition stated that the 31 murder, 11 kidnapping and 72 cases for violation of Loud Speaker Act was closed against party’s London-based founder, while cases against ex-Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, MQM’s Dr Farooq Sattar, Waseem Akhtar and others were also closed under the NRO.

The petitioner was of the view that the apex court had declared NRO null and void in 2009 but the cases were opened against MQM leaders.Image result for waseem akhtarThe petitioner also prayed the court to place MQM leaders including Dr Farooq Sattar and Waseem Akhtar and others names on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The petitioner made federal and provincial governments, IGP Sindh and others party in the petition.
