Reports Summoned From NHA Chairman, Isb Mayor On Anti-encroachment Drive

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has summoned reports from chairman National Housing Authority (NHA) Jawad Rafique Malik and Mayor Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz regarding ongoing removal of encroachments on all highways across the federal capital.

A three-judge bench headed by acting Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard on Centaurus mall encroachment case.

As the hearing began, Chairman CDA apprised the court that encroachments were removed from Centaurus Mall to Service Roads, adding that an overwhelming anti-encroachment operation is underway in the entire metropolis including blue area.

He claimed that the city would be cleaned of encroachments ‘very soon’.

To this, CJP Gulzar said that Kashmir and Express Highway were still cramped with illegal constructions.

“I have been driving around the city for 40 years. It has now become impossible for me to drive across Islamabad with ease”, the Chief Justice stated.

“Even Embassy road’s green belt is illegally possessed. Those heading for judges colony have to park their vehicles far back and walk on foot”, he added.

The court then adjourned hearing for two weeks and ordered NHA Chairman and Mayor Islamabad to submit a photographic report on the ongoing operation in next hearing of the case.
