Revolutionary Poet ‘Faiz Ahmed Faiz’ Remembered on 35th Death Anniversary

LAHORE: The 35th death anniversary of legendary and revolutionary Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz is being observed today. 

Faiz Ahmed Faiz was born on 13th February in 1911 in Sialkot hailing from an academic family that was well known in literary circles.His father Sultan Muhammad Khan was a barrister who worked for the British Government, and an autodidact.

Faiz was an intellectual, revolutionary poet, and one of the most celebrated writers of Urdu language, having been nominated four times for the Nobel Prize for literature

His work remains influential in Pakistan literature and arts. Faiz’s literary work was posthumously publicly honored when the Pakistan Government conferred upon him the nation’s highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 1990. He also received the Lenin Peace Prize by the Soviet Union in 1962.

He was the best revolutionary poet of his time, such people born rarely. Faiz fought against injustice, unfairness and inequality through his poetry. He create a new era in Urdu language with his unique qualities which includes romantic and soft tones in poetry.His poetry has been translated into several languages including Russian and English.

His best books are Naqsh Faryadi, Dast e Sabah, Zindan Nama, Dast e Sang, Sarwadi Seena, Sham Sheriyan,  Mere dil mere musafir and Nuqsa e Haye wafa.
His prose  Meezan ,Salabain mere dareechay, Matah e Loh o Qalam and Hamari Qoumi Sakhafat are best among books.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz passed away on this day (20th November) in 1984 in Lahore.
