RTS, RMS Systems Made Operational For By-election

Islamabad (October 14, 2018): The Election Commission of Pakistan made operational the Results Transmission System (RTS) and Result Management System (RMS) for by-election 2018.

Returning officers will use the RMS system to send results to the ECP from 7,186 polling stations that are linked to the RTS system.

The process to transmit results will begin at 5pm, when polling concludes. A team of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is present in the ECP’s headquarters in Islamabad to ensure smooth functioning of the RTS and RMS systems.  polling for the by-election on 35 constituencies of National and provincial assemblies has begun countrywide amid strict security.

The by-polls are being conducted on 11 National and 24 provincial assembly seats including 11 from Punjab Assembly, nine from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two each from Sindh and Balochistan. More than five million registered voters, around 2.3 million women and over 2.7 million men, are going to exercise their right to vote. Overseas Pakistanis will vote for the first time in the by-polls through iVoting.

The polling will continue until 5pm without any break.

A total of 374 candidates are contesting the by-elections.The major NA constitutes where political bigwigs are contesting include Lahore’s NA-131, where a tough contest is expected between PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique and Humayun Akhtar of PTI. Similarly former PM Shahid Khaqan is vying from NA-124 and Alamgir Khan is representing the PTI in Karachi’s NA-243.

Ballot papers have been handed over to the presiding officers, which will be distributed under the supervision of the Pakistan Army.

Over 7,400 polling stations have been set up for the by polls. Of these, 1727 have been categorized as highly sensitive.

Overseas Voters

Overseas Pakistanis will vote for the first time in the by-polls. The commission said that as many as 7,364 eligible I-voters have received their voters’ passes for bye-election being held today in 35 constituencies.

The commission had issued voters passes to these successful registered overseas Pakistanis during the registration process of I-voters through their email ID and all registered I-voters would be able to cast their vote in bye-elections.

The registered I-voters will be responsible to protect the information of voter pass and the I-voters should avoid sharing any information about their login and voter pass with anyone for the safety of such information.

The ECP had started registration of overseas Pakistani voters from September 1 for giving them the right to vote in bye-polls. All overseas Pakistanis had been asked to register themselves as voters by the due date.

Control Room for Overseas

The Election Commission of Pakistan has set up a control room to redress the complaint or problems of overseas Pakistan for casting their votes during the by-poll on October 14, today.

According to ECP the overseas Pakistanis who yet not have a voting password they can approach the control room to solve the issue as no one can cast their vote without voter password.

ECP said that the control will remain open between 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The commission had also extended the date for registration of overseas Pakistanis from September 15 to September 17 for exercising their right of casting vote in bye-elections.
