Lahore (April 14, 2018): Federal Minister For Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique on Saturday said that they believe in the respect of all institutions but politicians should also be respected.
He said this while talking to media after appearing before the apex court bench headed by the chief justice hearing a suo moto case over Rs 60 billion losses to the Pakistan Railways.
The federal minister said that he had never changed loyalties in his political career and anyone could disagree with his political ideology but could not negate the sacrifices given by his family for the democracy in the country.
“I have never been part of Ziaul Haq instead my family stood against his policies,” he said.
Speaking over his performance in railways ministry, Saad Rafique said that he had exercised all his efforts to improve situation in railways but was disappointed today over what had happened inside the court.“Me and my all officers had worked day and night and appeared before the court today to inform the court of the improvements in the department during the past more than four years,” he said.
The minister told that when he took charge of the department, it’s revenue was Rs 18 billion as compared to Rs 30 billion losses but now the department is earning Rs 50 billion with losses of around Rs 35 billon.“These losses now could be ended if we terminate the branch line operations,” he said and further informed that the 65 percent of the railways budget goes to the pensioners who are higher than the number of employees working in the department.
He said that they had worked hard to improve the situation but it would further take 10 to 12 years to improve the situation in the railways.
