Riyadh (June 25, 2018): Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces intercepted two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia over Riyadh on Sunday.
Colonel al-Malki, in a statement carried by SPA, said that coalition air defenses spotted the launching of two ballistic missiles by the Houthi militias from Sa’dah city in Yemeni territory toward Riyadh.The two missiles were intended to hit residential districts however air defenses intercepted the two missiles and destroyed them, which led to shrapnel spreading over residential areas without causing any casualties.
Houthis’ al-Masira television said that rockets were aimed at Saudi defence ministry and other targets in the Saudi capital. As per the reports, rockets hit their targets in Riyadh with high precision.According to British news agency, at least six loud blasts were heard and bright flashes were seen in the sky over Riyadh, while puffs of smoke were visible above the city.
A witness confirmed that shrapnel was spotted on a street in the diplomatic quarter where most embassies are located and many foreigners live.In addition to fire trucks, a high-security presence was also seen in the area. Security personnel prevented people from entering the district.
The attack is at least the sixth to target Riyadh since December of past year.
