Riyadh (October 23, 2018): Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman met with family members of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Riyadh on Tuesday, state media said.

The report said King Salman and Prince Mohammad offered their condolences to the family of the Saudi journalist.

Khashoggi — a Washington Post contributor and critic of the crown prince — was killed after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.After more than two weeks of vehemently denying Khashoggi was dead, the Saudi government on Saturday said he was killed in a fight inside the consulate and said the murder was not state-sanctioned.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday called for 18 Saudi suspects in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi to stand trial in Istanbul, saying all those involved had to face punishment.

“My demand is that 18 people be tried in Istanbul,” Erdogan said in a speech to ruling party lawmakers in Ankara, adding that “all those who played a role in the murder” had to face punishment.

He said that the murder was “planned” days in advance according to a “roadmap” set up by a Saudi team who were sent to Istanbul for the purpose. Erdogan added he still wanted answers on numerous issues including “who gave orders” to the team and where the corpse is.

Khashoggi was a US resident and had lived in self-imposed exile in Virginia since 2017, shortly after the powerful Prince Mohammad was appointed heir to the throne.
