SC Dismisses Plea Seeking Removal of Chairman NAB

Islamabad (June 07, 2018): Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Sadiq Nisar has dismissed the plea seeking removal of Chairman National Accountability Bureau(NAB) today.

Plea for the removal of Chairman NAB was filed by PML-N’s leader Noor Awan, which was heard by the in chamber by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

It may be recalled that on May 12, a petition was filed against National Accountability Bureau Chairperson Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal in the Supreme Court seeking his removal.

The petition was filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Noor Ahmed Awan, stated that the accountability bureau had released a press statement on May 8 which stated that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was involved in money laundering.

On May 8, NAB had issued a press release mentioning that NAB will probe alleged laundering of $4.9 billion to India by Nawaz and others.

The press release mentioned that the information was taken from the Migration and Remittance Book 2016. However, the State Bank of Pakistan had rejected this information on September 21, 2016, the petition noted.The petition further states that the sole purpose of the press release was to malign Nawaz Sharif. The press release has raised questions pertaining to institute’s integrity, it mentions.

Orders should be given to investigating the move to issue the press release, the petition said, adding that the NAB chairman should also submit an unconditional apology.

As Per the detail garnered, Pakistan Muslim League bigwigs attended party central executive committee meeting in Punjab house Islamabad, then Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi, Federal Ministers were also present in the meeting.

PML N condemned the allegation of NAB chairman Justice Retired Javed Iqbal for initiating a probe against the Nawaz Sharif based on a media report which alleged that he laundered $4.9 billion to India.
