SC Hears Sindh Govt Petition Against Acquittal Of Accused In Daniel Pearl Case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of the Sindh Govt plea to suspend Sindh High Court’s (SHC) judgment regarding the release and acquittal of accused in the murder case of American journalist Daniel Pearl till September.

A three-member bench presided by Justice Mushir Alam heard the plea.

Lawyer of the Sindh government during his arguments said that accused are international terrorists and their release can have severe adverse effects and they have been kept under MPO.

During the hearing, Justice Yahya Khan remarked that the court has acquitted the accused so how can the lawyer of the Sindh government call them terrorists.

Justice Mushir Alam remarked that SHC’s order can only be suspended if there is any flaw in the order adding that the Sindh government can extend MPO.

The counsel of the accused argued that his clients have not seen sunlight for 18 years and there should be fear of God from the government side.
