Karachi Amenity Plots: SC Orders Demolition of Illegal Structures

Karachi (April 07, 2018): The Supreme Court on Saturday ordered to revive the parks and playgrounds across the city in their original form and said that the court would not tolerate illegal construction on amenity plots.

These remarks were given during a plea from the former Mayor Karachi Naimat Ullah Khan on illegal constructions in the city during a hearing at SC Karachi Registry. The proceedings were conducted by a two-member SC bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Maqbool Baqar.

The petitioner said that the parks and playgrounds are illegally occupied in the city and political offices are being established in it.

The court ordered the KDA and anti-encroachment department to remove all encroachments, political parties offices from the playgrounds and parks in the city. They also ordered to demolish the illegal construction of marriage halls and other encroachment excluding a swimming pool, squash and tennis courts  and skating ring from Kashmir Road.

They also ordered to recover a playground at the end of the Shahra-e-Quaideen.

Meanwhile, in another case, the apex court also summoned the computerized revenue record of last one month from the advocate General Sindh. The court was hearing a case pertaining to transfer of government lands. The proceedings were headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed.

The court further asked the mayor Karachi and chief minister Sindh to sit together and find out what is going on the ground. The SC judge also said that the revenue officials are holding their children marriages on chartered planes in London.
