SC Rejects NAB Petition To Place Shahbaz Name In ECL

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has rejected a petition of the NAB seeking placement of Shahbaz Sharif name in the Exit Control List (ECL).

A divisional bench of the SC comprising Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard the anti-corruption body petition against Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shahbaz Sharif.

Deputy prosecutor of the NAB Jehanzaib Bharwana contended that the most the accused fled from the country owing to not to be placed in the ECL adding that six accused of the NAB in the different cases have run away from the country during the phase of inquiry.

The deputy prosecutor told the court that Shahbaz Sharif conducted corruption through the suspected transactions adding that his name was included in the ECL in the assets beyond income case, however, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered to remove his name from the ECL.

Justice Muneeb Akthar said that the person which the NAB wanted to place on the ECL is a renowned personality of the country and asked the NAB prosecutor did he flee after removing from the no-fly list?

The hounourable judge remarked that the SC has interpreted in the justice Qazi Faiz Essa case that the suspected transactions are not included in the corruption and taunted the NAB prosecutor that he didn’t bother to read the justice Qazi Faiz Essa’s verdict of the SC.

The court later disposed of the petition of the NAB.
