SC Rejects Plea Seeking Removal of Rao Anwar’s Name From ECL

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has rejected the plea which sought exclusion of Former SSP Rao Anwar’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL). Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also expressed severe agitation over the provisioning of various facilities to Rao Anwar.

According to details, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar heard over a plea requesting the removal of Ex-SSP Rao Anwar’s name from the ECL.

As the defendant’s lawyer presented arguments in the case, Chief Justice enquired over acquittance of Rao Answer. He questioned, “He may remain on bail but how was he handed passport?”

CJP continued, “Rao talks about going abroad, I recommend to seize his passport.”
To this, Rao Anwar’s lawyer responded that his client’s passport was already taken away and currently is in the possession of authorities.

When told that all the family members of Former SSP are residing abroad, CJP asserted that if his family wants to meet him, they’ll have to come here [in Pakistan]. We will not remove his name from the ECL.”

Furthermore, addressing the Defendant’s lawyer, Chief Justice talked about the period when authorities arrested Rao Anwar.

“Only we know how difficult it was getting him [Rao Anwar] arrested, Do you have any idea how many days he was on escape?”, lashed out CJP.

“We will not accept your application to allow Rao to go abroad and lose our grip on him that we got after such a long period”, concluded Chief Justice Mian Saqib.

It is to be clear that Rao Anwar is on bail currently in the murder case of Naqib Ullah. He announced his retirement in January 2019.

It is also pertinent to mention here that last year on January 13, 2018, a Police team led by SSP Malir Rao Anwar claimed to have a Police Shootout.

The Police team asserted that four suspects were gunned down during an operation that was carried out to arrest most wanted terrorists.

A young man named Naqib Ullah was among the killed persons.
