Lahore (February 11, 2018): The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Sunday began its proceedings in Clean Water Case where it summoned the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to respond regarding spilling of wastage in River Ravi.
The Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif along with he Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leaders and Punjab government officials was present in the apex courts’s Lahore registry to appear before the three member larger bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar.
Chief Minister Punjab would brief the apex court regarding the efforts underway from the Punjab government to ensure provision of safe and clean water to the people of the province.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday ordered Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to appear before the apex court on Sunday at 11:00 am after the apex court was informed that the chief minister could not appear before court on Saturday due to his participation in an event at Badshahi Mosque.
The chief Justice was chairing a three member bench at Lahore registry in clean water case.
Earlier on Saturday morning, the apex court summoned the chief minister Punjab after it was informed regarding a report pertaining to spilling of waste in River Ravi.The CJP said that Lahore is the heart of Pakistan and no one know what is being thrown in the heart of the country. “If Lahore is witnessing such things than what would be the situation in other parts of the country,” he said.
Punjab Law Minister talking to media outside Lahore registry on Sunday said that dispensing justice was a pillar for any society and after that provision of clean drinking water was also necessary.
“We will not hesitate in improving any shortcomings identified by the apex court,” he said.
He said that the PML- has always respected the judiciary and its orders but certain elements use it for their vested interests.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar would also conduct the proceedings of a suo moto case regarding removal of hurdles on Lahore roads in the guise of security on Sunday. The Chief Justice would also hear a suo moto case pertaining to extra judicial killings.
