Islamabad (January 30, 2018): A three-member bench of the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the rape and murder case of minor Aasma today.

The bench includes Chief Justice Saqib Nasir, Justice Umarata Bandiyal and Justice Ijazul Ahsan. The court also issued summon notice to Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the province’s Inspector General Police.

Asma had gone missing on January 14 in Mardan’s Gujar Garhi area, and her dead body was found from sugarcane fields near her home on January 15 after rape.Earlier on Friday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took suo moto notice of rape and murder of a four-year-old Asma in Mardan.

The CJP has sought report of the case from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General within 24 hours.

On January 17, K-P’s top cop said that an autopsy report had confirmed that a minor girl in Mardan had been raped before being killed.

“Asma went missing in Gujjar Ghari area of Mardan on January 13 and her body was found the following afternoon,” Mehsud confirmed last week, adding that they had sent the body for an autopsy which confirmed that the girl had been raped and then strangled.

On the other hand, Punjab government has sent the initial report to KP government. According to Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) Director General Dr Ashraf Tahir, samples taken from minor’s body have verified that she was raped before getting murdered.

Asma’s hair, nails and samples of skin were sent to the laboratory. Furthermore, her DNA test will be conducted in the next step. Dr Ashraf Tahir said the department is trying to complete all the tests as soon as possible.

Earlier on last Tuesday, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif extended ‘sincere’ cooperation to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in the Aasma murder case.

“Aasma was a daughter of the soil just like Zainab,” said Shehbaz while addressing a press conference about the Zainab rape and murder case. “I plead political leaders to not be insensitive toward these issues.”

Meanwhile, the police also submitted its investigation report to the Supreme Court on the case.
