Second Panama JIT Report to be Presented in SC Tomorrow

Islamabad (June 06, 2017): The joint investigation team (JIT) probing allegations of money laundering by Sharif family has prepared its 15-day progress report, which will be presented before the three-member special implementation bench of the apex court tomorrow.

The JIT met here at Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) with Additional Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wajid Zia in the chair. All the six members of the team are attending the meeting.

Sources said that the JIT finalized its progress report which will be presented in the SC when the implementation resume hearing of the matter on Wednesday.

They added the statements of Prime Minister’s sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz and President National Bank (NBP) Saeed Ahmed recorded before the JIT were made part of the report. It also include the letter of Qatari prince which he wrote in response to JIT’s summon.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the JIT decided to beef up security and monitoring of the Academy round the clock in the wake of leaking of Hussain Nawaz’s photo.

Sources said that the JIT had stated investigation as to who and how the picture of Hussain Nawaz was leaked on social media. The team decided to apprise the Supreme Court about the issue.

The team reportedly issued instructions for round the clock security of the Academy, where the proceeding of the committee are held, and constituted teams to monitor the academy 24 hours a day.

It is to be mentioned here that yesterday the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) had reportedly submitted records of the Hudaibya Paper Mills to the joint investigation team (JIT).

Yesterday, the JIT examined a written statement from Qatar’s former prime minister, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani, which he had sent in response to a letter from the JIT sent to him earlier this month.

The JIT had earlier obtained from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation reports, certified copies of the Hudaibya Paper Mills case and attested order sheets of the accountability court as well as copies of proceedings of the Lahore High Court (LHC). State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had also shared details related to the Hudaibya Paper Mills.
