SECP Chairman Records Statement to FIA in Tampering Case

Islamabad (July 18, 2017): The chairman of Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Zafar Hijazi has recorded his statement before the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team in Chaudhary Sugar Mills record tampering case.

FIA team has questioned him with various angels, however sources claimed that SECP chairman has failed to satisfied them with his answers.

On July 10, the three-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, which is monitoring the implementation of the Panama case has ordered registration of a case against chairman Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Zafar Hijazi for obstructing justice.The bench of the apex court, which handed down the majority judgment in the Panama Papers case, issued the order after Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf informed the court that Federal Investigation Agency has made recommendation to register case against him .

The order has come in the wake of the report submitted by the six-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to the special implementation bench of Panama case today.

Justice Azmat Saeed said that the case against Zafar Hijazi will be registered today. Member of the bench Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan remarked that Zafar Hijazi also threatened his staff who recorded statements to the JIT. Zafar Hijazi also kept lying to the court, he said. It has also to be seen on whose instruction the records were tempered, Justice Azmat Saeed added.
