Senate Committee Dismays Over Not Providing of JIT Record

Islamabad (November 9, 2017): The chairman senate standing committee for finance has expressed strong anger on Federal Board of Revenue, Law ministry and Attorney General for not providing of Panama JIT record and termed the conduct of the departments tantamount to challenge for the constitution.

Chairing the meeting Saleem Mandiwala complained that the Panama JIT record submitted in Supreme Court was not being provided to senate committee.He said FBR, law ministry and Attorney General have the same stance saying that  the record could not be provided, however it was the standing committee right as per the article 66 of the constitution.

“The institutions should only obey the constitution rather particular laws as the refusal from provision of record is equal to challenge the constitution, ” he mentioned.Chairman Committee has also expressed anger over the absence of the officials of three foreign banks in the committee meeting and alleged that before the issuance of Euro Bonds a huge amount had been transferred to abroad.He warned, foreign banks, if the officials would not present next meeting they would be called by using magistrate powers.

Meeting has also reviewed the Auditor General proposal regarding review of projects or institute’s performance, environmental impact and production cost during the audit.
