Senate Committee Irks Over Ministry Of Communication For Not Removing Toll Tax Signboards

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Communications on Friday irked over Ministry of Communication officials for not removing toll tax signboards for lawmakers on motorways.

The Senate Standing Committee on Communications session was presided over by chairman committee Hidayatullah. As the session went underway, Ashok Kumar and Maula Bux Chandio expressed displeasure over the ministry of communication officials for not removing toll tax signboards that say lawmakers have to pay tax.

“Toll Tax signboards are the insult of lawmakers and politicians. Communication ministry should immediately remove the boards,” says Chandio.

The Senate Standing committee ordered to remove the toll tax signboards imposed for lawmakers immediately from all motorways. Committee also sought a report on Monday.

Earlier, the Senate Standing Committee on Communications requested the NHA to remove the boards immediately.

It must be noted that on December 7, Communications Minister Murad Saeed issued a notification stating that all ministers and senators will have to pay toll tax. He even ordered the NHA to put up signboards to ensure the orders are strictly followed. Now, only army personnel, judges and ambulance drivers are exempt from paying toll tax.
