Senior US Official Visits Pakistan For Third Time In A Year

Islamabad (April 22, 2018): The United States acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells on Monday reached Pakistan on her second visit of this month, April.

Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua received the senior official of the US at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a meeting.

Both officials discussed bilateral relations, Afghanistan issue in the meeting and matters regarding restricting movement of Pakistani diplomats in Washington.

This is Ambassador Wells third visit to Pakistan this year, which aims at continuing the Pak-US conversation to strengthen bilateral relations and promote peace and security in the region.

During her visit, she will meet foreign minister Khawaja Asif, interior minister Ahsan Iqbal and other military and civil leadership aimed to minimize the distance in the relation between both countries.

During the meeting, the two sides will review bilateral relations and discuss regional issues particularly on Afghanistan.

The tension between Pakistan and Indian prevailing on borders, Pak-Us working groups performance and the issue of restriction of Pakistan diplomats movement in Us will come under discussion.امریکی سفارتخانے کی گاڑی کی ٹکر سے نوجوان جاں بحقOn April 07,  a youth, Muhammad Attique was killed and two others sustained injuries, when the United States military attache’s car collided with a motorcycle in the federal capital on Saturday.

Colonel Joseph was driving the car when the ill-fated incident took place. The diplomat was released by police after brief detention.

On April 18, United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon has ‘reciprocal’ travel restrictions will be imposed on Pakistani diplomats in the United States (US).US Confirms Travel Restrictions Over Pak EnvoysShannon said in his statement that, “Our diplomats are under travel restrictions. They can travel further [than 40 kilometres], but they have to notify the government of Pakistan. It’s very common in diplomacy”.

The senior US official also referred to travel restrictions placed on US diplomats in Pakistan which requires them to inform the government of movement beyond 40 kilometres of their station.
