Important Session of National Assembly Underway

Islamabad(May 24, 2018): Historic session of National Assembly resumed on Thursday under the chair of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, constitutional amendment for the merger of FATA with KP will be tabled today for the approval.

According to the details, FATA Interim Governance Regulation 2018 Bill will be presented in the session of National Assembly today, according to the bill laws enforced in Pakistan will be applicable in FATA too.

The house passed a resolution strongly condemning the recent acts of unprovoked firing by Indian troops on the line of control and the working boundary which resulted in the martyrdom of a number of people.

The resolution also asked the government to extend necessary assistance to the victim families.The house also passed a resolution expressing its deep dismay over the shooting incident at Santa Fe, Texas in the United States which claimed the lives of ten students including a Pakistani girl Sabika Sheikh.

Addressing in the session, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said the political leadership needs to demonstrate maturity and refrain from steps that stoke intolerance and chaos in the society. He said the difference of opinion is the beauty of democratic system but we should not spread hatred.

He said his party is not in favor of the disqualification of any political figure be it Jehangir Tareen of PTI or any other leader.

He said that the name of former President Parvez Musharraf was removed from the ECL following the court’s order. He said despite the abusive language used by the PTI leadership during the sit-in, the mandate of the PTI’s members was protected and their resignations were not accepted.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other parliamentary leaders agreed on the constitutional amendment draft that will be presented in parliament on Thursday(today).

The meeting was attended by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Leader of Opposition in Senate Sherry Rehman, Minister of States and Frontier Regions, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Alhaj Shah Jee Gul.

The special assistant of legal affairs Barrister Zafarullah has tabled the FATA reform bill saying that government had included all proposals in the bill presented by the opposition and also gave its final shape.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, on the occasion, that FCR law being demolished and all privileged included in the bill keeping view the wishes of the FATA people.“The government and opposition had decided to not change the number of Senate and NA seats for FATA keeping country’s interest in view,” he clarified.

According to sources, earlier the government allies had a difference of opinion over the issue of FATA reforms.

The coalition partners demanded that their 12 seats should be allotted in the National Assembly, sources said.Parliamentary Leaders Agree on FATA Constitutional BillThe coalition members demanded that when the Internally Displaced People return to their homes, the new census should be held.

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party members boycotted the session.

On Tuesday, the amendment was approved by the Federal cabinet in a session presided over by the prime minister.

The seats for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly will increase to 147 from the current 126 after its merger with Federally Administered Tribal Areas, according to the proposed 30th Amendment of the Constitution.
