Lahore(October 02, 2018): A seven days second Chief of Naval Staff All Pakistan Hockey tournament is being organized at National Hockey Stadium by Pakistan Navy in a collaboration of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Sports Board Punjab (SBP).

A total of eight teams are participating in this tournament in which 128 players including young players from domestic hockey are showing their abilities and talent.

The teams of the tournament have been divided into two pools. Pool A consists of four teams including Pakistan Navy, National Bank, Port Qasim and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) while Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Police, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) are part of Pool B.“I was not expecting such a wonderful response by the sports lovers who not only enjoying hockey tournament but also bucking Up their favorite players, I am much happy to be a part of this tournament,” says, Arslan Qadir, a hockey player belonging from D.G Khan.

On the Second day of the tournament three matches were played. In first match, SSGC beat PAF by 2-1. SSGC went up 2-0 in the 19th minute through penalty corner conversions by Pakistan’s ace Drag flicker Mubashar Ali and on the other hand in last quarter, Adnan Haider from PAF reduced the margin and field a goal.

In the second game of the day, National Bank defeated Port Qasim by 3-1 but there was no goal in the first quarter.

PQA surprised their more experienced opponents when Ammar availed the first penalty corner of the match with a high flick into the netting. That seemed to be a wake-up call for the bankers. They controlled the game for the rest of the quarter earning five penalty corners, one of which resulted in a penalty stroke

In final and third match of the day 2, WAPDA team outclassed Police by 8-1.

The score of the match was 5-0 on half time. WAPDA slowed the meter a bit in the second half but still added two in each quarter.

Police had their best phase in the last quarter when they created a few chances and managed a co goal by Bilal.

The debacle of Pakistan Hockey is due to the lack of events like Naval championship from a decade now.

If we need-to revive the national game, we must give youth better opportunities to not only show some skills but also hold their Flag around the globe.
