ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi in a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed the country’s tax system serious threat to the national economy.
Shabbar Zaidi in a letter asserted that the current tax system is not sustainable for future generations, adding the tax recovery system is collecting tax less than 10% of GDP.
He said tax revenue is being generated through indirect taxes.
The letter reads that less than 2 million people file tax returns whereas 90 per cent of a total of 3.1 million traders are out of the tax net.
