Two killed, 10 injured as Shalimar Express collides with oil tanker in Sheikhupura

SHEIKHUPURA: Train driver among two people were died and 10 others were injured as Karachi-bound passenger train, Shalimar Express collided with an oil tanker in Sheikhupura on Monday night.

According to the details, Shalimar Express was heading to Karachi from Lahore when it collided with a loaded oil tanker at Nabi Pura railway crossing. Eight coaches and engine of the train caught fire after the accident. Rescue officials rushed to the accident site and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Sheikhupura.

All the passengers were evacuated from the train but most the passengers lost their luggage. Fire turned the seven carriages and passengers’ luggage into ashes. The blaze was doused after three hours efforts by the officials of Fire Brigade.

While talking to AbbTAkk News, DCO Sheikhupura Tariq Arqam said that one man was killed and six others were injured in the accident. He said the passenger train hit the oil tanker at Nabi Pura railway crossing.  The DCO said the oil tanker stuck at the railway crossing due to axle and became the cause of the accident. Officials of the Pakistan Railways said that rescue teams were dispatched to Sheikhupura from Lahore and Gujranwala. Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique took notice of the accident.

The passengers of Shalimar Express were taken to Lahore by a relief train. Whereas, law enforcement agencies arrested the oil tanker  driver and a local railway official.
