Sharifs Plea: LHC Recommends Larger Bench For Hearing

Lahore(July 19, 2018): Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday heard the petition filed against the conviction of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Retired Muhammad Safdar.

Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi conducted hearing over a miscellaneous plea of Lawyers Foundation for Justice and forwarded it to the Chief Justice Lahore High Court.

The petition filed by Advocate A K Dogar has termed all the steps of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as illegal after the approval of 18th amendment.

He has requested the court to annul the convictions of both Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. A three-time prime minister was convicted under that law which has been nullified, added the plea.

Dogar maintained in the court that accountability court’s July 6 verdict has been attached with the petition. He asked the court to constitute larger bench as the matter is of significant nature.Justice Ali forwarded the file for the formation of larger bench to LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Muhammad Yawar Ali.

Earlier on July  11, a plea against the sentence of former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Captain Retried Safdar was lodged in Lahore High Court by Lawyers’ Foundation for Justice through a renowned advocate, AK Dogar.

Three-Time premier was sentenced according to such a law, which become void after the 18th amendment.

LHC was requested to the declared punishment of Sharif Family Nul and void.

On July 13, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested and shifted to jail after they landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 11 years in prison by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court over his family’s purchase of luxury apartments in London, whereas, his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years in prison.

On July 06, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison and slapped a £8 million fine, while his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years with a £2 million fine in the Avenfield properties reference.

Nawaz’s son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar was given a one year sentence.

Moreover, Nawaz was fined £8 million and Maryam £2 million.

On July  09, Captain Retired Safdar, the son in law of former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif is shifted to Adiala Jail.

Captain retired Safdar was presented in the court of Judge Muhammad Bashir.

Strict security measures were in place outside the Federal Judicial Complex in G-11 sector of Islamabad, where the accountability court is situated. Police officials, the elite force, and rangers were deployed outside the building.
