Sharjeel Shifted To Jinnah Hospital For Urgent Treatment

Karachi (November 18, 2017): Pakistan People’s Party leader and MPA Sharjeel Inam Memon has been shifted to Jinnah Hospital Today.

According to the details, former Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has been shifted to Jinnah Hospital due to his backache issue today. He has been admitted to hospital for treatment to his illness.

Earlier on November 16, imprisoned PPP leader was given medical treatment after he complained about ‘sudden illness’.
Prison officials said that the former information minister complained about severe back pain and fever.A medical board comprising senior radiologists, orthopedics, cardiologists, neurosurgeons, physiotherapists and other doctors examined Memon and recommended moving him to a tertiary-care health facility to better ascertain his condition.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the medical board was initially reluctant on visiting the central prison to examine Memon, but due to intense pressure from the health department and the Chief Minister House, they were forced to comply.

Earlier, the court had called an explanation from jail superintendent over the constitution of a medical board for Mr Memon without seeking permission of the court within three days and also sought another report from health secretary within a week about the procedure and mechanism to provide treatment to prisoners. The jailer through the explanation report contended that after examining Mr Memon, a doctor at jail hospital had advised to call physiotherapist and neurosurgeons from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) since he was suffering from backache.

Therefore, he said, the director of JPMC was requested to depute them at prison and on Oct 28 two neurosurgeons examined the former minister and constituted a medical board for proper treatment.

The superintendent further submitted that the prison administration never called the consultants to advise for medical board, but they in their own opinion advised so after conducting certain tests. He maintained that it was a routine process which was followed in the present case and requested the court to drop the explanation letter.

PPP leader facing corruption charges worth Rs5.76 billion in government advertisements graft scam.Memon has been incarcerated for the past several weeks after he was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau and then remanded by an accountability court. He has been complaining of backache and other health problems as soon as he was imprisoned.

NAB had filed a reference last year against the former minister, the then provincial information secretary Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani, deputy directors of information department Anita Baloch, Mansoor Ahmed Rajput and Mohammed Yousuf Kaboro and others including the heads of seven advertising agencies for allegedly committing corruption between 2013 to 2015 in awarding advertisements of provincial government’s awareness campaigns in electronic media that resulted in the loss of around Rs3.27 billion.
