Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy wins second Oscar Awards

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has become the first Pakistani to win two Oscar Award, after she won second Oscar Award for her Documentary Film ‘A Girl in the River’, the film was based on the life of 18-year old girl, who was being attempted to kill in the name of honor.

“It was not less than a miracle to be nominated for Oscar Award for second time, as very few women film directors get nominated for this award”, said Oscar Award winner Sharmeen Obaid Chenoy.

Before receiving Oscar Award, Sharmeen said that the story of her film ‘A Girl in the river’ revolves around a girl, who was thrown in canal after killing, but she survived miraculously and even then she could not get justice.

Chinoy said that eleven women including her have won the award in non-fiction documentary films of Oscar Awards, adding that to be nominated for Oscar again and to represent Pakistan is an honor for her. It must be recalled that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy had won her first Oscar award in 2012 for her film ‘The saving Face’.
