SHC Adjourns Hearing of Plea Against Afridi’s Book

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) adjourned hearing of Abdul Jalil Khan Marwat’s plea against Pakistan former skipper Shahid Afridi’s controversial book “Game Changer” for indefinite period on Friday.

According to details, SHC heard the petition seeking a ban on Afridi’s book.

The petitioner stated that the book damaged the reputations of Waqar Younis, Javed Miandad and Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and promoted hatred and mistrust among cricket control authorities, players and fans.

The petition submitted before the court that alleged misrepresentation of Afridi’s age had hurt, humiliated and defamed cricket and stated that “illegal acts and omissions caused by the respondents are in violation of various articles of the constitution, Pakistan Penal Code, Cyber Crime Law and the norms of human rights.”The petitioner requested the court to direct Afridi and author Wajahat Khan for stoppage/not giving the permission or consent to the publishers for publication of the said disputed book.

It also prayed the court to direct the respondents to remove the said illegal, unlawful, defamatory and derogatory remarks against national and international players.

The petitioner also pleaded the court to direct Afridi to furnish proof of his year of birth and show the cause of misstatement of the same, and to the National Database and Registration Authority to provide proof upon which the cricketer’s passport and ID documents were issued.

The petitioner also requested the court to direct Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and International Cricket Council (ICC) to give evidence or proof for their declaring Afridi’s age as 16 in 1996.

SHC has adjourned the hearing for indefinite period due to the non-appearance of the petitioner.
