KARACHI: As the 6th population census is to start tomorrow in the country, Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday ordered the government and concerned authorities to include a separate column for special persons in the census form on a petition seeking inclusion of separate column for special people.
An SHC bench heard a petition seeking allocation of a separate column in the census form for special persons so that their exact numbers in the country could be determined.
The petitioner counsel submitted that in the last census carried out in 1998 there was a separate column for physically challenged people in the census form.
However, he added that the separate column was deleted from the census form this time. The counsel pleaded the court to stay the population census without column for special people in the form and direct the authorities to include the same so that the exact number of special people in the country could be determined.
The court expressed its astonishment over non-inclusion of separate column for special people in the census form and directed the government to include the same in the form.
The court also directed Additional Attorney General to write letter to the federal government and concerned institutions today over the issue.
