Karachi (October 23, 2017): Chief Justice Sindh High Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh returned former Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon’s application pleading the court to restrain National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting him.
Earlier in the morning, a division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected former Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon’s bail in a corruption case — pertaining to alleged awarding of advertisements at exorbitant rates — after the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) special prosecutor completed his arguments.
Headed by SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh, a two-judge bench rejected the PPP leader’s bail application along with the applications of 12 others accused in the case. After cancelling the interim bail, the court directed NAB to arrest the accused.However, the accused including the former Information Minister who were present in the courtroom remained there and filed an application with the bench pleading it to direct NAB no to arrest them.
They took the plea that they are moving Supreme Court against the SHC decision to reject their bail application, so till then the NAB be restrain from arresting them.However, the CJ SHC, who was heading the division bench which rejected the bail of the accused, returned the application without hearing.
Sharjeel and other accused are still in the court and are not coming out as NAB team is waiting for them outside to arrest them.
