Shehbaz Sharif Announces To Quit As PAC Chairman

ISLAMABAD: The opposition leader in national assembly Shehbaz Sharif and chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has announced to tender for the PAC post and signalled resignation from rigging commission.

Talking to media outside the parliament he also mentioned that lawmakers from the PML-N and other opposition parties will resign from the parliamentary committee formed to probe rigging in the 2018 general elections, Opposition.

“The rigging committee has not convened for four months,” he complained as he announced the decision. “We have [therefore] decided to resign from it.”

The announcement came a day after the opposition collectively failed to mount a successful challenge to the PTI government’s budget for fiscal 2020.

“We condemn the censorship imposed on media. Fascist tactics are being used by the government. We have asked Javed Latif to present a report on the security of the journalists soon in the parliament,” the PML-N leader added, also condemning the assault on Karachi Press Club President Sami Ibrahim.

Talking about the ban of the word ‘selected’ from Parliament, Shehbaz said the word is neither inappropriate nor an abusive word. “What word should we use in its replacement,” he asked.

Shehbaz also lamented the “oppression and injustice” being done with former PM Nawaz Sharif.

“Such injustice did not even happen during fascist governments. There were meeting permissions during imprisonment during General Musharraf’s rule. We will fight a legal and political battle for our right,” he added.
