SHO Humiliation Issue: CJP takes Suo Motu Notice

ISLAMABAD (May 05, 2017): Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Friday took Suo Motu notice of vandalism and humiliating Station House Officer (SHO) Kunri Police Station by a local Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader for arresting one his men.

According to the details, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of the alleged abuse of power by a feudal lord in Umerkot, Sindh and immediate arrest of suspects, it has been learnt.

The notice was taken on media reports that PTI activist Nawab Zaid Talpur along with co-accused forcibly entered into Police Station, Kunri, District Umerkot and humiliated and maltreated the Station House Officer (SHO), read a statement issued on Friday.

Taking notice of the matter, the CJP has asked the Sindh IGP to submit a report on the matter within five days.

Video of the incident, which went viral on social as well as mainstream media, shows landlord Nawab Zaid Talpur, accompanied by his son Nawab Hassan Talpur and others, is seen sitting on the chair of the Umerkot police station SHO Tassawur Jatt, admonishing him for rounding up his supporter.

Zaid, an Umerkot-based leader of the PTI, is a nephew of Pakistan People’s Party MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur and a cousin of the Sindh MPA Taimur Talpur. On Wednesday, the police booked Zaid, his son and four other men who accompanied them to the police station under sections 147, 148, 149, 150, 353 and 504 of the Pakistan Penal Code, offences that carry prison terms of up to two years.

Police has also arrested Zaid’s son, Hassan. The police said Zaid was still at large but his family claimed that he too had been rounded up.

 

Earlier this week, Talpur was booked along with his six associates at the Kunri police station for, police claimed, grabbing and thrashing the SHO concerned.

Talpur, however, had denied the allegation, saying that he was manhandled and kept behind bars when he visited the police station to inquire about a case registered against one of his party workers.
