KARACHI: Sind Assembly on Saturday approved police act 2019 while Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan supported the bill whereas Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isaf (PTI) did not sign the select committee draft.
The Sindh Assembly session was held in chair of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani as the house commenced proceeding of approval of the bill presented by Mukesh Chawla, Provincial Parliamentary Minister started and the opposition boycotted the session on an outset of the process.
Addressing at the occasion, the Minister Mukesh Chawla thanked the opposition over their support on the bill adding that PTI, MMA, TLP took part in the consultation over the bill adding that opposition boycotted the process even after taking part in the consultation adding that actually, they wanted to run away.
The opposition parties tore apart copies of agenda and conducted sloganeering against the government. Addressing on the occasion Shaharyar Mahar said that ruling PPP neither conducted legislation on the matter nor it heed to the court orders adding that DSP’s will be recruited directly under the police act and clearly said that the bill approved in the assembly is illegal and unconstitutional.
Haleem Adil Shiekh of PTI taking part in the debate said that Sindh Assembly today passed black law adding that we will not let Sindh police to become Zardari force and said that we wanted human-friendly police culture.
The recommendations of the select committee on the restoration of police order 2002 were prepared before the Sindh assembly session while the bill named police act 2019 was presented today in the assembly.
As per the police order 2019, IG Sindh will be authorized to set out an annual policing plan and Sindh government will select the IG Sindh while the federal government will provide the officer for the IG rank and he will be deputed for three years.
The police order stated that the provincial government can return back services of IG to the federal government while the provincial government will also authorize for the appointment of additional IGs, DIGs but it will appoint additional IGs, DIGs with the consultation with IG. The Police order 2019 restoration draft made Chief Minister Sindh authority to appoint DIG and SSP.
However, Chief Minister Sindh will appoint DIG and SSP from the three names suggested by IG Sindh while SSP will appoint special police officer on the district level as per under the police order 2019 while special police officer will carry out duties on the specialized events.
