Sindh Assembly Budget Session Adjourned

Karachi (September 17, 2018): Sindh Assembly session on Monday has been postponed till tomorrow after CM Sindh presented budget recommendations.  

Presenting budget recommendations for the next nine months in the Sindh Assembly, Shah announced a cut in the development budget.

“The caretaker government had presented budget for three months,” the chief minister said.

“We have curtailed the provincial development budget,” he said. “An earlier allocation of Rs598.9 billion for new schemes has been cut down to Rs26 billion.”

The Sindh CM added, “The development budget has been reduced due to financial issues.”

“In the previous year, taxes of more than Rs598.9 billion were accumulated by the Sindh government as was sales tax of Rs100 billion,” he added.Shah continued, “958 schemes initiated as part of annual development programme will be completed this year.”

“Rs102.48 billion have been allocated for the Sindh Home Department and Rs2 billion for department’s development programmes.”

The Sindh chief minister further assured, “We are taking measures for the improvement in the quality of life of common people.”

As the session started under the chair of the speaker, power supply was suspended of the house.

Earlier today, the Sindh cabinet approved nine-month budget authorization in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said the provincial government had presented 1144.449 billion rupees budget for the financial year 2018-2019 before the previous government was ended.

He said approval of budget proposals for the first quarter of the current financial year from July 2018 to September 2018 was accorded and now 1123,991.3 billion rupee budget for remaining nine months of the current financial year will be got approved from the house.

He said that thirty-one trauma centers out of total forty-nine will be completed during the current financial year in the province.

He said some new projects will be included in the developmental programme. Sindh Govt Presents Rs 11.4B Tax Free Budget For Three MonthsEarlier on May 10, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presented Rs11.44 billion tax-free budget for three months for the fiscal year 2018-19.

Announcing the budget, Sindh CM said that the provincial government would not present a finance bill in the budget, adding that the next assembly will propose a nine-month budget.

He said that Sindh would receive Rs665.10 billion from the federal government, while sales tax on services would be Rs120 billion.

The Sindh CM also proposed a 15% increase in the salaries of government employees after which the salaries would reach Rs345 billion from Rs300 billion.

Sindh government allocated a total of Rs208 billion for education.A sum of Rs100 billion were allocated for provincial home ministry out of which Rs90 billion would be allocated for Sindh police.

The revenue was estimated at Rs 1,028 billion. An amount of Rs 344 billion were allocated for development expenditures.
