NAB launches Probe Against former Sec Culture, Others

Karachi (October 27, 2017): National Accountability Bureau has initiated investigations against former provincial secretary Culture Saqib Soomro, Director General Manzoor Kanasaro, and others about embezzlement of funds meant for feeding the poor during the Sindh Festival.

According to details Sindh government has awarded the contract for providing food to the poor people during the Sindh Festival to two caterers namely Omer Rajput and Arshi Rajput.

The NAB prosecutor and investigation officer have informed the court about initiating the probe against the two caterers as well as former provincial secretary Culture Saqib Soomro, Director General Manzoor Kanasaro, and others.The Investigation Officer of NAB also informed the court that former provincial secretary Culture Saqib Soomro has fled overseas to avoid arrest. He also informed the court about corruption in many other events including Bagh Ibne Qasim’s Ghazal Night ceremony, and Basant Mushaira ceremony under the pretext of event management.It may be mentioned here that in March 2016 the then Director General NAB Sindh Col (r) Siraj Naeem had said that the country is reeling from $ 11 million corruption every single day.

Saying that like elsewhere in the world corruption also exists here in Pakistan, he had added that there was also China-cutting of Karachi University’s land. However, no corruption case against Karachi University was under investigation, he said.DG NAB had claimed that though corruption has somewhat declined in 2016 compared to 2015 more actions are need to help curtail corruption in the country.
