Sindh Govt Imposes 144 Across Province

Karachi (November 01, 2018): The government of Sindh, in the exercise of powers conferred under Section 144 has imposed a complete ban on pillion riding and assembly of more than four persons.

According to another notification, the government of Sindh has imposed a ban on protests, demonstrations, rallies and assemblies of more than four people across the province for a period of 10 days with immediate effect.

Furthermore, a ban has also been imposed on the display of arms, private vehicles with mounted police lights, private vehicles with tinted glasses and fancy number plates throughout the province of Sindh with immediate effect.

The reason for ban hasn’t been specified, but according to reports, the decision has been taken in the wake of protests and rioting fears after the Supreme Court verdict ordering acquittal of Asia Bibi.

Earlier, Supreme Court had overturned the conviction of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother facing execution for blasphemy, in a landmark case which has incited deadly violence.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the case during which, Asia’s appeal against her execution was approved.“The appeal is allowed. She has been acquitted. The judgment of high court as well as trial court is reversed. Her conviction is set aside,” said CJP in the ruling.

The top judge announced, “She is to be set free if she is not wanted in any other case.” Bibi was convicted and sentenced to hang by trial court in 2010. In, 2014, Lahore High Court (LHC) had upheld the verdict.
