Siraj Durrani’s Production Order Issued For Today’s Sindh Assembly Session

KARACHI: A significant session of the Sindh assembly will take place today on the arrest of provincial assembly’s speaker Agha Siraj Durrani. Under-arrest Durrani has been issued production order by Deputy Speaker Rehana Laghari to attend the session.

NAB apprehended Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani from Islamabad hotel on Wednesday over charges of financial irregularities in government funds from a five-star hotel of Islamabad.

On Thursday, an accountability court remanded Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) till March 01.

Moreover, on the same day, Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser chaired a significant NA session where senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah, and other parliamentarians expressed their thoughts over the latest affair of the arrest of Agha Siraj Durrani.

Shah, in his address, lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government. He claimed that Agha Siraj Durrani’s arrest is part of a conspiracy which aims to weaken the Parliament.

“It may be possible that Agha Siraj Durrani has done something wrong [possibily guilty in graft cases], but what sort of treatment is being carried out with him? Everyone in the house; from Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan to NA Speaker are respectable for us”, stated Shah.

Afterwards, Federal education minister Shafqat Mahmood also addressed the house, with an overwhelming response to Khursheed Shah’s allegations.

“We [PTI-led Govt] has been alleged for taking revenge [in name of accountability]. NAB is an independent institution and Government has no involvement with its workings.” stated the Federal education minister.

Shafqat Mahmood, further, claimed that Justice (Retd.) Javed Iqbal was appointed Chairman of NAB after consulting Khursheed Shah, therefore, the inclusion of parliament in matters of anyone’s arrest seemed baseless.

Later, NA Speaker Asad Qaiser had to immediately adjourn the session till Friday (today) owing to the ruckus in the house after opposition members protested over the arrest of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.
