SJC Hears Presidential References Against Judges Today

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will resume the hearing today on presidential references filed against Supreme Court’s Judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Sindh High Court’s Justice K.K. Agha, AbbTakk News reported on Tuesday.

Stressing their strong opposition on the stance, Supreme Court Bar Council (SCBC) and Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) will observe strike, boycotting all court proceedings for the entire day.

A five-member larger SJC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Apex Court’s Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh and Peshawar High Court’s Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed will take up the case.

Attorney General Anwar Mansoor and Supreme Court Registrar Arbab Arif Rahim, who were issued notices along with other respondents by the SJC to appear, are most likely to appear before the council.

In the previous hearing held on June 14, the five-member SJC bench reviewed the case whether it was worthy to be fixed for hearing or not.

It is to be noted that Justice K.K. Agha and Qazi Faez are accused of possessing overseas property.

The reference against both senior judges seeks action in accordance with Article 209.
