Special Court Decides Not To Give More Time In High Treason Trial Against Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: The special court of Islamabad hearing a high treason trial against former president and army chief Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has categorically said that no adjournment will further be given in the case.

According to details, the special court’s divisional bench comprising Justice Nazeer Akbar and Justice Shahid Kareem heard the high treason trial case.

The government’s nominated counsel for Pervez Musharraf, Raza Bashir insisted the court a meeting with the ex-president and more time for a preparation in the case. On which Jusitce Nazeer Akbar expressing his anger said that the time for recording statement under 342 has been passed adding that “we appointed you to assist the court as the accused has not been appearing before the court and if you will not give arguments we will write in a order.”

The court asked the counsel why you filed a petition seeking to be given a one month time? to which, Raza Bashir said that he belonged to Lahore and he filed the petition after reaching here.

Raza Bashir said that earlier counsels were given time, henceforth he be also provided a chance otherwise he will quit the case.Justice Nazar Akbar responded that “wherever from you belonged to no adjournment will be given any more adding that Supreme Court has said that the time has passed to record 342 statement.”

Justice Shahid Kareem, at the occasion said that “your attitude with the bench is not good and asked why you are saying that the court is not giving you time adding that we didn’t get any request from you even if we received we will reject it and urged the counsel to start arguments.”

On which the counsel of Musharraf tender a apology over a the filing of the petition seeking the more time to which Justice Nazeer Akbar said that one can’not seeks apology from the court instead one should behave in good manner with the court.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing until October 8.
