Special Operation Against Street Crimes in Sindh Approved

Karachi (November 15, 2017): The Sindh apex committee has given go ahead for the special joint operation of Rangers and police against the street crimes in Sindh, particularly in Karachi.

According to the details, the provincial Apex Committee decided on Wednesday to take necessary measures to ensure peace in Karachi sustainable by launching a crackdown against street criminals.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The meeting was also attended by Rangers Director General Major General Mohammad Saeed, Inspector General AD Khawaja among other high-level officials.

While briefing the meeting regarding law and order situation in Sindh, particularly in Karachi home secretary apprised the meeting that high profile cases are being transferred to Badin court, while the accused will also be shifted to Badin as a plea has been submitted to chief justice Sindh high court in this connection.

Talking to participants, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah highlighted the serious threat of cyber crimes and asked the police.

Shah remarked that: “street crimes must be controlled at all costs.”

Weighing in on the topic, Rangers DG shared that street crime will only be controlled once the criminals are given severe sentences.

The chief minister remarked that he has requested the chief justice for a separate court for street crimes.

He also shared that he will speak to the federal government for an amendment in the Anti-Terrorism Act. Murad said that such cases should be classified.

The provincial police and rangers will also conduct a special operation against street crime, the CM added.The matter of cybercrime was also discussed. “Cybercrime is an important issue,” he said and requested the Rangers to formulate a policy to control it.

Speaking in regards to the safe city project review committee, Murad said that a notification will be issued as soon as he gets the names of the people.

The meeting participants also discussed increasing the security around shrines. “A policy would be implemented after holding talks with the interior minister,” CM added.

Chief secretary also told the meeting that the proposed law regarding the registration of religious seminaries has been sent to law department and after discussion it will be brought to provincial assembly.
