Sugar Crisis Engulfs Punjab as Shahbaz Sharif Takes Notice

Lahore (August 9, 2017): The sugar crisis have been blanketed the Punjab and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif taking the notice ordered the ascertain of reasons behind the crisis while resolution has also tabled in this connection.

The sugar prices jumped by five rupees and per kg price reached to 64 as the stock remained only 50 thousands kilograms and situation rapidly heading towards crisis. Suddenly in consumer markets sugar has been disappearing.

Retailers termed sugar mill owners cause of crisis while sugar mill association blamed that sugar mill mafia wanted to take the price to Rs 120 per kg as mills have more than two million sugar but they started limiting supply of sugar.

The sugar crisis reached in Punjab Assembly when opposition has filed resolution condemning the so-called sugar crisis and demanded strict action against the responsible.

The chief minister Punjab Shahabaz Sharif has taken the notice of the sugar crisis and formed committee comprising of provincial minister for food and agriculture and concern officials to review the reasons behind the crisis.
