Suicide Attack at Mogadishu Hotel Claims Nine Lives, 20 held Hostages

Mogadishu (June 15, 2017): A women among nine people were killed as a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a hotel in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, and gunmen stormed into a restaurant adjacent to the hotel, taking 20 people hostages.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched operation against terrorists. The security officials said that following the blast, the gunmen got into the Pizza House, taking dozens of people hostages.

The police later said that at least 20 people were being held by the terrorists. Police claimed to have rescued 10 people from the besieged restaurant but an unknown number of hostages are still trapped inside.

A terrorist organization, Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
