MUNICH: In a shrp criticism of President Donald Trump’s latest attack of media US Senator John McCain has said that “dictators get started by suppressing the free press.”
The Republican Senator from US state of Arizona, who is a frequent critic of President Trumps who hails from his own party, was reacting to Trump’s tweet in which he called media “the enemy of the American people.”
According to foreign news agency McCain told interviewer Chuck Todd from an international security conference here said, “If you want to preserve – I’m very serious now – if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press. And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That’s how dictators get started.”
