ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan is hearing bail plea of incarcerated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif seeking extension in his bail.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa is hearing the case. The bench also includes Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Yahya Afridi.
Nawaz Sharif is currently on six-week bail on medical grounds. His bail will expire on May 7.
“Interim bail should be extended until judgment in the review petition”, Sharif stated in his plea.
The PML-N supremo has further said in his plea that he hoped that review petition will be maintained by the top court regarding March 26 verdict.
The Supreme Court had granted Sharif bail for six weeks on medical grounds on March 26 against surety bonds amounting to Rs5 million each.
Last week, Nawaz Sharif had filed a 33-page review petition in the Supreme Court (SC), seeking permission for his treatment abroad.
The petition had stated that the apex court had approved conditional bail to Sharif for six weeks on March 26 on medical grounds, which restricted him to leave the country.
The apex court was pleaded to review the decision regarding the limitation of medical treatment to Sharif inside Pakistan. Sharif’s treatment was only possible through the doctor who previously treated him in United Kingdom (UK), it added.
