Supreme Court Reserves Judgement On Nawaz Sharif’s Bail Plea

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday reserved its decision on Nawaz Sharif’s petition against Islamabad High Court’s decision of rejecting bail plea in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Khosa heard the plea filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on medical grounds seeking bail in Al-Azizia steel mills reference in which he was imprisoned for seven years by Accountability Court Islamabad.

As the hearing went underway, a copy of Doctor Lawrence’s letter on Nawaz Sharif’s health was presented before the Apex court.

To this, Chief Justice remarked that there was no proof that the submitted letter is authentic.

Chief Justice maintained that the letter was written by a man named Adnan and seems as if it was written by ‘one private individual to another’.

Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Haris replied that the only purpose of presenting the letter before the court was to apprise that Nawaz was treated by doctors when his health deteriorated.

It is pertinent to mention that Islamabad High Court (IHC) on February 25 had dismissed Mian Nawaz Sharif’s petition seeking bail and suspension of his seven-year sentence on medical grounds.

AC Sentences Nawaz To Seven Years In Prison
