LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Tuesday said that their party leadership would wholeheartedly accept Supreme Court’s decision in Model Town incident case.
“Apex Court’s decision regarding the Model Town massacre will be acceptable to every one of us,” he said while addressing a media outside the Lahore Airport.
PAT chief said that Sharif brothers are responsible for model town incident, adding that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was interrogated first time by Model Town regarding the tragic incident.
“For the first time ‘free and fair’ investigation of Model Town incident has been carried out since the happening of an incident,” he added.
He said the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had recorded statements of both parties. “JIT had examined fired bullets at homes and Minhaj-ul-Quran secretariat,” said PAT chief.
LHC Suspends Notification For New Model Town JIT
Earlier on Thursday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended a notification for formation of new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Model Town incident case.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan and comprising Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and Justice Miss Aalia Neelum passed the orders on petitions filed by former Punjab police inspector Rizwan Qadir and constable Khurram Rafiq, facing trial in the Model Town incident.
The bench issued notices to the Punjab government and sought a reply.
Justice Qasim wrote a dissenting note while Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and Justice Miss Aalia Neelum ruled in favour of suspending the notification,
At least 14 people were killed and 100 others got injured on June 17, 2014, after police launched an assault on PAT supporters in Model Town, Lahore.
